Mean planning smeal planning....

For some reason or another I can not quite manage the weekly meal planning thing. I've done it successfully once or twice but I am really committed this time to making it work. OK, at least for a week. Maybe even a month? I think my long term goal will be to meal plan for two weeks at a time. Meal planning for two weeks sounds impossible but I know two, TWO women who say it can be done. I just don't know if my personality is up for knowing exactly what to eat each night. Most of my dinners have a lot to do with what I am in the "mood" for. How does one plan for that?

I'm getting a little help from a web application called Meals Matter over at mealsmatter.org.

Any meal planning pointers for a person who avoids planning at all costs?

I got a subscription to dinewithoutwhine.com. It's $6.95/month, and every week you get 7 days' worth of menus (including some brunch and dessert options) and a shopping list. The foods and recipes are pretty simple but tasty. I often substitute fresh veggies when the recipe calls for canned. I've also tried savingdinner.com. Good luck!

I think the proper spelling is "shmeal planning" by the way...

Well you could always make index cards with meals on them, and then hope that you daughter doesn't put "teriyaki chicken" at the front like you and Baily always did...

Fun! It took me awhile to find a groove. I have a few meals I make that we use pretty often and I use a few of those a week and then fill in a few new or harder ones. I have also learned how to pair up meals so that I buy less groceries and don't have lots of leftovers. For example, tacos with rice one night and taco salad with quesidalls the next.
